We're back, we're ready and we're here to make change! The RIS Eco Council was able to convene this Wednesday for the first time since school began in September and we're happy to say that the year ahead looks extremely promising. The team has already begun formulating innovative ideas that we are hoping to bring to fruition.
The Council has also seen a significant change in terms of our members and our structure. We are pleased to announce the introduction of our new student president, Alessandro L. and Vice-President, Thamadi B. Our new members have also already begun to show signs of initiative and are keen to help carry out our numerous projects. Our old and returning members are back and better than ever. While following COVID-19 restrictions we are confident that we are going to continue working and initiating effective change in the school community and beyond!
On Sunday October 4th, our members worked with WWF at the Explora Museum to celebrate Urban Nature 2020, a festival dedicated to celebrating nature in cities and to creating awareness on the endangerment of bees throughout Europe. Members of the Council worked with the children at the event and explained the importance of bees to the environment and helped them with activities like the colouring-in and decoration of wildlife images. Others helped by taking guests for a tour around the Tiber river green area managed and taken care of by the WWF with aid from the Eco Council, which is being transformed from a junkyard to a wonderful green space.
Jana, one of our Eco Council members who attended the event said, "It was a very enjoyable experience in my opinion. I got to take part in a noble cause, while also enjoying the presence of and helping out young children with more creative activities. I really liked it."
